Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@hbcustudentstorage.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

For summer break, our minimum storage period is four months.  May 1st - August 31st.


We do not allow hazardous materials, flammable items, perishable items, or illegal items to be stored. Please refer to our storage agreement for a full list of prohibited items.


  • Boxes

  • Sticker Labels


  • Unplug your mini fridge and leave the doors open at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled move-out date. This is to ensure it has completely defrosted and dried so that it does not mold and leak water on your other items.
  • Wipe dry with a clean towel.
  • Wrap the cord up and tape it securely behind the coils so that it does not drag or tear.
  • Secure the drawers and shelves inside as they may shift during the move.
  • Keep in mind that a fee will be assessed if your refrigerator is not properly defrosted due to the additional handling needed by our movers before it’s placed in storage.



 While you are permitted to use your own boxes, HBCU Student Storage boxes are free and tend to be higher quality than most store-bought boxes. Our Storage Scholars boxes also have preprinted labels on the side for easy inventory. 


Due to their fragile nature and value, all TVs must be packed in either the original box or a box specifically designed for TVs or monitors.


Avoid placing computers or monitors in boxes with other items, as vibrations during road transport may lead to items resettling within the box, increasing the risk of damage from objects with sharp corners.  


Note: If a TV is left unboxed for pickup, value protection coverage on the item will be forfeited by the customer.


We store the belongings in a safe, temperature-controlled facility near your campus, so we won't be moving your belongings too far from home.

The deposit fee is required when you sign up for our services to secure your spot in our storage facility. This will also get you one supply kit (if needed).


After your items are picked up, we will generate a detailed invoice, letting you know exactly what you are being charged based on the item(s) we picked up. 


All pickups will happen on the date scheduled and our movers will call when they are on their way. Please make sure to only add domestic phone numbers to your order. 


If you're not available at the specified time, you should either arrange for a reliable person to receive your items on your behalf or consider rescheduling for another day. 


  • Find someone you trust to meet the movers. You can appoint a proxy in your Storage Scholars account.
  • You may also reschedule for a different day no later than 5 business days prior to your pickup. 
  • DO NOT leave your belongings outside your room or in the lobby unattended.
